I have been blessed to serve as Rector of Christ Church, Frederica, on St. Simons Island, GA, since 2013. Previously, I served as Rector of St. Peter’s, Poolesville, MD, and as Associate Rector of St. James, Lancaster, PA. Over the last twenty-one years, these ministry settings have spanned inner-city, rural, and suburban/small-town ministry locations. Each has also been a great blessing to my family and me, with profound and rich connections.
With Episcopal roots several generations deep on both sides of the family, I grew up in Lancaster, PA. Discernment for ministry began in high school and was affirmed while I attended Millersville University, where I majored in philosophy and psychology, worked in several management positions at UPS, and met my wife, Donna. We chose to spend two years establishing a firm foundation for our marriage before heading off to seminary at Sewanee, and I enjoyed full-time management with UPS during that liminal time. We welcomed our first child, Eva, shortly after graduating from Sewanee and returning to Lancaster. Eva is now a rising junior at Sewanee. Our youngest, Calleigh, was born while we were serving in Poolesville, and is a rising high school senior. Donna and I will soon celebrate our 26th anniversary. Our family (including our dogs) is our greatest joy, and we love nothing more than taking adventures together.
My ministry has included service to the wider church in a variety of ways. I serve as the Dean of the Southeast Convocation of the Diocese of Georgia and serve on Georgia’s Standing Committee. I have served on Diocesan Council in all three dioceses in which I have ministered and chaired the Commission on Ministry in Georgia. I have represented all three dioceses at respective General Conventions as Deputy or Alternate Deputy since 2012. I have also served on or chaired various diocesan committees in areas including Youth and Human Resources. I have served as a Trustee of Sewanee since 2017. My ministry has also always included service to the community through leadership on various boards, most notably in support of education, hospice care, and racial reconciliation. I have also worked for unity in several ways, both in the Church and beyond, through endeavors like Glynn Episcopal Ministries, a group that brings five congregations in our county together, and Glynn Clergy for Equity, a group that was formed in the aftermath of the murder of Ahmaud Arbery in our community in 2020. I am in the final stage of my work towards a Doctor of Ministry at the School of Theology at Sewanee.
I am a reader and sometimes a runner. I like doing things with my hands, like working on our cars and refinishing furniture. I am a golfer who rarely takes the time to play, but still fondly recalls long drives and chip-ins that could not be as grand as I remember them. I am a fan of auto racing, particularly Formula 1 and IndyCar. I also enjoy painting with watercolors and planning our family’s next adventure.
